Tackling Homelessness in Dallas: A Community Effort

In Dallas, 10,000 face homelessness nightly. See how OurCalling offers hope and vital services to those in need.

Dallas, a city renowned for its vibrant culture and booming economy, hides a harsh reality. It’s also home to the largest homeless population in the South, surpassing cities like Houston, Miami, and Atlanta.

The Scope of Homelessness

According to OurCalling, a faith-based nonprofit organization in Dallas dedicated to assisting individuals experiencing homelessness, a staggering four-fifths of these people are not in shelters.

Instead, many find temporary refuge in cars that serve as their only shelter, under highway overpasses and bridges that offer minimal protection from the elements, or in clusters of makeshift tents assembled from tarps and other salvaged materials.

These precarious living conditions expose them to harsh weather, limited access to basic necessities, and heightened vulnerability to safety risks.
